    pride thing?

Does "help the pride thing" mean "boost one's pride"? When do you use "pride thing"?

    -friends
115782 - Why don't you hire him as an actor?
119018 - You could have him dress up
119018 - and put on skits whenever you want.

125024 - Well, that would help the pride thing.

130196 - Wow, you look great! Do you wanna
130196 - move in with me tomorrow?

Yes, it does. We use xxx + thing to mean that this is the key reason for something - it's a money thing = it's all about money, it's a pride thing = it's a question of pride, etc.

Although I don't know "Friends" well and I'm not sure precisely which characters these are, I'll suggest a slightly different interpretation.
Perhaps character 125024 is saying: "Making this person put on costumes and do little acts whenever you want him to is going to have some effect on his well developed sense of self worth". In short, demeaning him might improve his humility. But I could be dead wrong.

Either interpretation seems possible. Someone who has watched the whole episode would almost certainly know which was intended.

    Re: pride thing?

    Here is the original dialog:

Phoebe: So is Joey going to have to give up the apartment?

Chandler: No, I hope not! I tried to offer him some money, but he wouldnít take it.

Phoebe: Well, how much do you think he needs?

Chandler: I figure that $1,500 would cover him for a few months, yíknow? But I have to trick him into taking it so I wonít hurt his pride.

Phoebe: Why donít you hire him as an actor? You could have him dress up and put on little skits. Whatever you want.

Chandler: Well that would help the pride thing.

So yes, in this case, Chandler fears that Joey won't accept his money because he's too proud to accept "charity". So Phoebe suggests that Chandler should offer the money to Joey in exchange for putting on skits, since Joey is an actor by trade. Although technically if Joey worked for the money he wouldn't be accepting charity, but on the other hand he would not be pleased to be Chandler's personal court jester, which is why Chandler somewhat sarcastically said "Well, that would help the pride thing."

Thank you for your great effort finding the script. I really appreciate it!
