    gossip, rumor or personal nature?

Is "personal nature" personal type(quality) or person's character? I think it means "gossip is a simple rumor that is a private type of stuff" but the translation goes "gossip is a simple rumor about a person's personality or trait", so it's confusing, I need a clear shower of explanation.

ex)It is said that gossip is a simple rumor of personal nature. It sounds harmless, but most people don't agree. At first, gossip might not seem so bad. One person tells a second person something about someone, the second person tells a third, and so on. As the story continues, it grows and changes. People do not know all the facts. They add information. As the gossip goes from one person to the next person, the damage becomes bigger and bigger.

Perhaps what it says is that "gossip is a simple rumour of a personal nature". Matters "of a personal nature" are matters that are private to the individual, especially regarding relationships, health, money, family etc. Or as you say, 'private type of stuff'.
This is not exactly the same as someone's "personal nature" in the sense of their character or personality, although of course those aspects will often come into the gossip.

    not a teacher

    I agree completely.

'..of a personal nature' qualifies 'rumour' in this sentence, not the person.
