Hi,

What does this sentence mean?

This offer is subject to availability.

Does it mean "This offer is hard to be available."?

Thanks a lot

Not a teacher.

The offer is only good (i.e., the offer can only be extended) if the product/service is available.

Thanks. Isn't the phrase '...is subject to...' used for unpleasant results? Shouldn't it be '...subject to...', without is, meaning depending on?

Not getting what you want is a unpleasant event, isn't it? I don't think is subject to can only be used for unpleasant things- it just means that it is controlled/affected in some way. Are you thinking of be subjected to?

Many thanks. I used to think that is subject to equals is prone to. :-(

'This offer is subject to availability' is a more refined version of the cheap and cheerful pound shop slogan:

'When it's gone it's gone'.
