    Cool Fluctuant or Fluctuating

    Hello!

I can't really figure out which word is best in these cases, can you help me?

    -My schedule is rather fluctuant.

    -I have a fluctuating schedule.

    Cheers

I didn't know fluctuant existed until I read this.

My dictionary says it's used in literary or technical contexts, so it wouldn't be appropriate in your sentence.

    Re: Fluctuant or Fluctuating

I'm into my fifth decade of life without ever having seen, heard, or used fluctuant before. I had to look it up to believe it was a real word. It appears you've used it correctly, but most native speakers would not know this word -- or I should say, most people in the U.S. Perhaps this useful word is in greater use elsewhere.

If you want another word to use, try "variable."
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

    I would prefer "fluctuating schedule".

And in the UK. I thought it did not exist until you and Rover said that you had looked it up, and that it did.

Rover's dictionary must be more complete than mine, though. I didn't see the note about technical contexts.
