    I think that, in the above sentence, the article "the" should be crossed out.

    I think you'll find we're more likely to say "next to Classroom #3" or something like that.
    I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
