"Remember monkey bars? The hot feeling in your palm, that squared-off place where your fingers meet your fleshy palm?"

    IQU3838.
When I read your question I looked down at the palm of my hand and spread my fingers. I saw the nearly square-shaped outline of the skin between the fingers where the fingers join onto the palm. This is the part the writer is referring to, "that squared-off place".
