    "How am I looking at?"

I had a little debate about this with someone. He's also a non-native speaker but he stayed in NY for a couple of months. He asked me, "How am I looking at?" I couldn't understand him so I tried to rephrase and ask if he meant "How do I look?" He said those two sentences are synonymous. I haven't heard of his version of "How do I look?" He said he heard it a lot of times in the US. He said native speakers use that sentence. He also said "How do I look? is a formal sentence and his sentence is a slang.

^^ I don't know about this. I need help from you. Thanks.

"How am I looking at?" makes no sense to me. "How do I look?" and "How am I looking?" are correct.

Re: "How am I looking at?"

Yes, I really couldn't figure out the meaning of that sentence.

So, does "How am I looking?" mean "How do I look?"
