    The

In my view, the "the" before "traditional" is unnecessary. Do you agree?

"The second part discussed the organization and the traditional features of industrial competition in Europe."

    Thanks!

    Re: The

It is not necessary, but it is not incorrect.

It depends on the sentence's intended meaning. To me the sentence reads as follows:

    • The second part discussed
      • (i) the organization and
      • (ii) the traditional features of industrial competition in Europe.

Without the second 'the', it reads:

    • The second part discussed
      • the organization and traditional features of industrial competition in Europe.

I'm not sure I understand what you wrote. Are you saying that the first sentence implies that the second part is composed of two subparts, whereas the second tells us that there are no subparts?

    Yes. In other words,

    • The second part discussed the organization and [it also discussed] the traditional features of industrial competition in Europe.

    • The second part discussed the organization [of industrial competition in Europe] and traditional features of industrial competition in Europe.

That's an interesting interpretation. I never would've thought of that.
