    Type of clause

In the following sentence, what is the type of clause that begins "that..."?

Bob assured Sally that requirements will be met.

I think the basic sentence is "Bob assured Sally," and "Sally" is the DO of "assured." But I can't figure out what the clause really modifies.

This is in contrast to ...

Bob ensured that requirements were met.

Here, I think, "that requirements were met" is a clause acting as the DO of "ensured."

I'm using these explanations on my software quality assurance team to help us use "assure" and "ensure" correctly.
    Thanks.
