Can I use riding on the for the following expression?

  2. riding on the plane

  10. riding on the truck
  11. riding on the taxi

"Riding on" is not suitable for #3 and #11.
#12 sounds strange to me, but it might be OK.
I would say "sailing on a ship/yacht".
I think the others are OK.

going by bike; cycling
going/travelling by plane; flying
going/travelling by car; driving
going/travelling by train, coach, tram, boat, bus
going by motorbike
going/ travelling by truck, taxi, helicopter, ship, ferry, sampan
going/travelling by yacht; sailing


These are all more natural to me than 'riding on'.
