Planting trees and bushes, setting a record

Hello, can you please help me with translating a part of a newspaper article from Russian into English.

More than one hundred thousand trees will be planted in Kazakhstan in one day. This event will attempt at setting a Guinness record.

The goal of this act is to make the populated areas (couldn't come up with a better word
) more beautiful, to solve ecological issues, to teach young people to care about their native cities and the future of their country, said the president.

"In 10-15 years the rising generation (I doubt this sounds right but Lingvo suggested this variant) will see the real results of their work," he adds.

The head of Ecological Union stated that Kazakhstan has applied for Guinness record. "Next year they promised to send their observers here," he said.

I will appreciate your suggestions. Thank you.

I sure hope you didn't actually buy that. I'm guessing it's a literal translation of подрастающее поколение. It's very wrong.

The translation should be "the next generation".

Yes, that's why I think twice before trusting Lingvo.
