    went back with

1-I went to a universtiy in New York but my family lived in Boston. Every summer I went back with my family.

Could this be used if my parents are not accompanying me on the trip but I am simply going back home to them.

With sufficient context it might be possible, but the simple answer is 'No'.

    Re: went back with

Without any further context, I would read it that the student stayed in New York during the school year and went back to Boston to be with his family during the summers.
