i knew that......i just want to know the basics of uses of do/does/did and is/are/am.
when do we use "do" and when do we use "are" ?
1a)what "do" you want to do in your life?
1b)what "are" you want to do in your life?
1a) is correct and 1b) is incorrect..but in example given below 2a) is incorrect and 2b) is correct...in both 1a) and 2a) we use "do" but one is correct and another is incorrect...what is the reason?
2a)what "do" your hobby?
2b)what "are" your hobby?
***** NOT A TEACHER *****
(1) As a learner like you, I understand how difficult it is to
understand certain things about another language.
(2) Please remember the verb "to be" is SUPER special!!!
In fact, some languages do NOT use "to be."
(a) We English speakers must say: She is nice.
In some languages, they just say "She nice."
Many times, "to be" in English is just an equals (=) mark.
Today is hot. / Today = hot.
(3) Please remember that you use "do" for questions IF the verb
is NOT "to be."
(a) What is your hobby? What = your hobby? My hobby is music. My
hobby = music.
(b) What do you
like for a hobby? The verb is "like." If you say "What
you like for a hobby?" native speakers will understand, but for "good"
English, you need to use the "question word"
do.
(4) Just keep asking questions. The teachers (and non-teachers)
are delighted to help you. Little by little you
will understand.
