He stressed upon the right kind of education.?

    Dear teachers,

    I read (a) in a book.

    a) He stressed upon the right kind of education.? OR
    b) He stressed the right kind of education.?

I read (a) in an oxford dictionary.

    a) He stressed the importance of a good education.? OR
    b) He stressed upon the importance of a good education.?

If "upon" can't be used then that sentence in a book which is taught in school is an incorrect sentence?

    Many thanks in advance

So "He stressed (upon) the right kind of education." is incorrect?

    Many thanks in advance.

    That's right, it's incorrect.

    Stress here means emphasise.

It takes a direct object: in this case the importance .

    We don't say emphasise upon.

Okay. I'd like to know why.

It appears perfectly fine to me except that it's formal. "Stress something" and "stress upon/on something" appear to me to have somewhat different meanings.
