Could you please help me get the meaning of purpled-phrase below?


His bones healed gradually and after a month he could at leastt hop-and-walk to the toilet and not embarrass himself with company there. Though docs had warned us not to mention the fall, Ryan couldn't resist asking once, "Stupid or what?"

I don't know, it just hard for me to understand. Could you please explain it or give alternate sentence so I can understand it better?

I assume he has fallen down or off something and that's why his bones were broken... They were told not to mention what happened. It might upset him or something. For more specifics you'll have to read the whole thing (wherever this comes from).
