Parisians with their carts and goats...

    Hi

I don't know what the goats mean in the following sentences, could anyone help me out?

    Thank you very much.

"In 1921, the old Paris, the Fifth Arrondissement, was far away from the good cafés and restaurants and teeming not with tourists but working- class Parisians with their carts and goats and fruit baskets and open begging palms."

Goat's milk is healthier than cow's milk, and commonly used as an important dairy source!
( Goats are also still used in some areas of California to eat shrubs in order to prevent fires. )

There weren't many cars in 1921.

Um, so people rode goats? Or did you mis-read carts.
