WARNING: NOT A TEACHER

(1) Welcome to usingenglish.com.

(a) Whenever you have a question, just ask it here.

(b) Excellent teachers will give you the answer.

(c) Non-teachers like me are currently allowed to give

our opinions. But remember: if I say X, and a teacher

says Y, then Y is the correct answer.

(2) You are confused about apostrophes. So am I.

(3) I went to Google and typed "We will meet in the parking lot." If you

do that, too, you will get some ideas that will help answer your question.

(4) I am happy to discuss some ideas with you:

(a) Here in the United States, many people prefer to use an apostrophe

ONLY when it shows real possession. For example, I think that most

Americans prefer "the employee parking lot" rather than the "employees'

parking lot." The employees do not own the parking lot. The parking lot is

for the employees. Americans also usually prefer the singular. That is,

employee parking lot rather than employees parking lot.

(b) I think (think!!!) that many Americans would simply say (or write):

We will meet at the supermarket parking lot at 6 a.m.

(i) I noticed in those Google results that both "at" and "in"

are used. I prefer "at." (That is, the general area.) "In" seems

to me to emphasize the idea of "inside" too much.

(c) I also noticed that you can "skip" this problem by rewriting the

sentence:

We will meet at/in the parking lot of the supermarket at 6 a.m.

(5) Hopefully a professional writer will soon answer you -- and me.

Have a nice day!

Yes, I would not use the apostrophe, but you do need an article.
... in the supermarket parking lot.

I join Parser in welcoming you to Using English.

Yes - welcome to the board, m.fawzi.

Please make your thread titles more meaningful. In this case, a better title would have been Supermarket or supermarket's car park.
