What's "smells" mean in this sentence?

"The crocodiles stay hidden by submerging the entire bodies except for their eyes and the tip of their smells"

    Smile Re: meaning

'Smells' is completly wrong for this sentence.

    I think
"The crocodiles stay hidden by submerging their entire bodies, except for the tips of their noses" is better.

    Hope this helps.

    Re: meaning

I would say, that the meaning of "smells" in this sentence is "sense of smell". Anyway that is my understanding of this sentence

    Best wishes,
