    A proper word

    Hello.
I've got some problems with a few sentences.

    1) Arts of combat and selfe-defense are getting increasingly popular with girls.
________ arts are getting increasingly popular with girls.
(Here I need to replace bold words with only one. I already did 7 examples, but I have no idea what to write here)

    2) What we see here is only the tip of an_ _ _ _ _ _ _; the real scope of the problem is unknown.

    3) I needn't have been upset because due to an anaesthetic the surgery was _ _ i _ _ _ _ _.
(In these two sentences I need to write a proper word. Can you help me somehow, maybe give a small clue?)

Thanks in advance for your help!

    Ok, what are your examples?

    2) What we see here is only the tip of an_ _ _ _ _ _ _; the real scope of the problem is unknown.

You're looking for an idiom here.

What do anaesthetics do? What are they for?

Thanks in advance for your help!
