    Question In/At that place

Could you, please, tell what's the difference between the prepositions in/that place?

Also, the thing I'm interested in is whether there are any peculiarities in using the pronouns which & that? E.g.
The hat, which is now quite old
The hat, that is now quite old

Maybe, one of the variants is more modern?
    Thanks a lot

    Sure.

Earlier, there was an old house at/in that place.

You mean, if it's not a restrictive attribute, we can't use that? E.g.

I like this fashion, which/that was very popular in the past.
    Here only which is possible?

Yes, in non-defining clauses (in which you only give extra information) you don't use that.

Mark told me about his new job, which (not that) he's enjoying a lot.
