cut - Definition from Longman English Dictionary Online
cut something into slices/chunks/pieces etc (=make something into a particular shape by cutting)
Cut the carrots into thin strips.

Is "cut something to slices/chunks/pieces" correct as well?

No. "Cut it to pieces" means destroy it, as in the credit cards illustration.
Cutting something into pieces generally means that the pieces are going to be used for something, and you should probably try to get the pieces the same size.
