    look askance

Your friend comes to work later and later each morning. You ask:

    - Won't your boss look askance at you?

Can you use the phrase in this context? I have a feeling it doesn't sound very natural. What could you use instead to keep it informal?

    Not a teacher.

Perhaps "look askew at" would be a better choice.
