    Question publically or publicly?

    Hello all,

what is the correct spelling of publically? Is it publically or publicly?

I've seen both of the above being used, but I am not sure which one is more commonly used or if one of them is wrong.

    thanks a lot

    'Publicly' is the one.

    thanks for your reply!

should I use publicly because it is more commonly used or because publically is wrong?

    'Publically' is wrong.

However, it is 'basically', not 'basicly'.

Well, it seems 'publically' does exist as a spelling.

    Re: publically or publicly?

Some dictionaries give publically as an alternative spelling, but not that many according to Onelook:

I thought it was an older Brit spelling. In any case, there are half a million UK sites that use it. Here's one for fun:

Far more common than I had realised.
