    posed a risk

    Dear teachers,

Would you tell me whether I am right about my interpretation of the expressions in bold in the following sentence?

The court also took into consideration the two years he spent in prison ahead of the lengthy trial, and added that he no longer posed a risk to society.

    to pose =
    to put forward; present

no longer pose a risk for society = (not longer pose direct threat to life and health of people)

    Re: posed a risk

As this is exactly how several dictionaries define the word (e.g. pose: Definition, Synonyms from Answers.com), you are quite possibly right.

    Hi Vil

I suspect the simplest translation of "posed" in this case might be "represented" as in "he no longer represented a risk to society."

    Hope this helps
