    Exclamation is or are?

    Hello everyone,
Would you please tell me which sentence is right?and what`s the difference between them?I have heard both of them.

1)There IS a lot of new things I must learn.
2)There ARE a lot of new things I must learn.

    Thanks in advance,

    Re: is or are?

"There ARE a lot of new things(that) I must learn." is the correct one.

In addition to "Tomico" I want to say, that the first one is incorrect. I think that you have misunderstood it, as you heard it.

    Thanks in advance,

    The second one is correct.

However, it might be a good idea to be aware that some native speakers of English use "there's" even when what comes after "there" is plural. It's not really correct, but it happens enough to make it noteworthy.

If you were to stay in the U.S. for some time, you'd probably notice this. I think you would notice this in other English speaking countries as well.
