    which is correct? play the piano or play piano? If both of them are ok, what is the difference between them?

    They are both correct and there is no practical difference between them.

    A better title would have been Play the piano or play piano?

    It does depend on context. If you are talking about someone's ability you can say:

    Do/can you play piano?
    Do/can you play the piano?

    However, if there were a piano in the room and you wanted to ask someone to play a tune, you would say:

    Please play the piano for me!
