    Same here, only in AmE the first syllable is /pu/, and the second syllable is stressed, as in French.

    And this pronunciation is spreading. A TV advert for Peugeot - now airing [ugh - ] in the UK, has /u:/. The point is that neither Br nor Am Eng tries too hard to produce the lip-rounded French vowel - though I wouldn't be surprised to hear it in Quebec (not that I'm likely to go there...)
