How to find out the pronunciation of a particular person's name?

How can I find out what pronunciation is accepted as the correct one for a particular historic person? I was looking for the pronunciation of the name Keyes as in Sir Roger Keyes, but I find different pronunciations in use for the name Keyes. How do I find out which of them applies to the particular individual Sir Roger Keyes? (rhyming with keys, with eyes, with days...?)

The Longman Pronunciation Dictionary by J C Wells, covers most well-known names. If it does not mention a particular person, we can fairly safely assume that the pronunciation is standard. The LPD does not mention Sir Roger, but it does give the name 'Keyes', pronounced like the things that lock doors,

The pronunciation and spelling of people's names causes us problems too- there's no harm in asking, which is what I do.
