In Britain, we now say, "I am in Year 3 (at primary school)".

Which years do you teach in?
I teach in the third year of a primary school.
    I teach Year 3 (Years 3 and 4).

'At primary school', as I wrote. However, as we know that 'Year Three' is always a primary school class, we don't normally say it.

In schools in most counties in Britain, Years 1-6 are in primary schools, Years 7-11/13 in secondary schools.

So, the third year of secondary education is Year 9.
