    Hello!
    Can we use "scatter" and "spread" interchangeably here, please?

    "There are boxes scattered / spread everywhere in my living room".

    Here, yes. But you would spread butter on your toast, but scatter seeds in your garden.

    'Scattered' suggests to me a more messy distribution of the boxes than 'spread'.
