    can, could, should

In the following sentence, can I use should or can instead of could? If not, why can't I?

If you want to get a better feeling for how the city is laid out, you could( can or should?) ocan walk downtown and explore the waterfront.

Depending on what exactly you want to say, you can/could use can, could, might, must, or should here.

Can you explain why you reject the other choices given in the post above?
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
