    structure problem

    Dear all,

I can't get the structure of this. Is it a question?

Two lover are having a bath together staying in the the bathtub. The guy says to his girl:

A: "So what exactly is this soapy, open and casual and fun if you want?
B: Open? You think I want to see other people?

Is what A says a question? Also what is the meaning of "open" ?

That was from series "House" season 7 ep. 1

    Thanks.

A: "So what exactly is this soapy, open and casual and fun if you want?
This is intended as a question, but does not makes sense as it stands.

An open relationship is one where you can both see other people. You are not committed exclusively to each other.

It can also mean that you don't hide the fact that you're in a relationship. "We're open about the fact that we're dating each other."

It can also mean that you want to communicate clearly with each other. "It's important we be open and honest with each other if we want our relationshipt to work."
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

Thanks a lot. (realtionship) was the missing word> I coudn't realize he is speaking about their relationship I got it. I appreciate it.

One more thing. What does "soapy" then mean? It was misleading, I thought he was talking about the "bath"!

    Re: structure problem

I believe "soapy" comes from "soap opera" and means "sentimental", in a mildly negative sense. In this case, "soapy" is also pun (they're sitting the bathtub, no?). It's a television writer's attempt at making a joke
