    where they left off

Would anyone please explain the following in bold more easily?

    1. So Gail's corporate learning team implemented an educational tracking team. When employees log onto the system now, they can find out which courses are available to them, and if they've already started taking a course, it returns them to where they left off.

    2. To equip people to take control of their own job path already opens a new mind-set about a worker's potential in the company. Individuals have more power to choose the kind of contribution they will make to the enterprise and can set the horizon of their personal achievement. It is not much of a leap beyond to the idea that a worker can also become an owner of a firm.

    Thank you.

It takes them back to the point at which they stopped working.

    Thank you for the help.

I can understand your answer literally. Still I'm not sure what it's saying. Maybe I don't understand the system mentioned in the quote.

    Re: where they left off

Let's say a course has 12 modules. You have completed four of them. Then, for whatever reason, you stop. Your return to the beginning of the fifth module. It (re)starts where you left off.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
