    Unhappy Exposed pipes

    Hello,

It is a easy question for English people, but I like to understand exactly the meaning of the sentences I read in the newspapers. It's come from The Washington Post but the red part stuck me a bit, thanks in advance for your explanation.

"In a windowless attic in Washington, under a maze of exposed pipes, a group of U.S. diplomats is working on Libya".

It's a room under the ground?

    Thanks

    Re: Exposed pipes

If it's in the attic, it's under the roof. For some reason there are a lot of pipes (water pipes?) under the roof above the diplomats.

    Re: Exposed pipes

No, an attic is the uppermost floor of a building. "Exposed pipes" simply means that the room isn't "finished" - that is, the wires and pipes near the ceiling haven't been covered with tile to hide them.
