    Using former - was/is?

    In this sentence,

    He was my former teacher.

Should the linking verb 'was' be replaced by 'is' since former already denotes past?

    Thank you!

    I prefer:

    He is my former teacher.
He was my teacher (at one time).
He used to be my teacher.
