    Cousteaus

    Dear all,

    What is "Cousteaus" in:

[After the ship got down, a couple of Cousteaus wannabes found the wreck about thirty years ago]

    Thanks a lot.

I got it, but I will go with "ambitious sailors" that was not very specific context... Thanks a lot for your explanation,

Your choice, but that's not what it means. Incidentally, the ship 'went down', rather than 'got down'.

    Re: Cousteaus

I agree that a "Cousteau wannabe" is not an "ambitious sailor". It is, as was explained, someone who wants to be a famous underwater explorer. I wouldn't describe Jacques Cousteau as a sailor.

In the original post, it said "After the ship got down..." It should read "After the ship went down..."

The ship went down = the ship sank.
