    go in

    Dear all,

What is the meaning of "went in" in the follwing dialogue:

A: Do they let you just walk out of the hospital right after surgery?
B: Not right after. He "the patient" probably went in first thing this morning. The whole idea is to shorten recovery time.

    Thanks a lot.

But if he went to the hospital, what has that to do with the previuos questions?

It's like: Can the patient get out right after the operation?
B: Not right after. May be he entered the hospital early in the morning?

    What is that?

It makes sense if we think of the operation taking place soon after he went in, ie., early in the morning. He could then have had several hours to recover, so he did not get out 'right after the operation'.

p.s. maybe (= perhaps) is one word.
