Post I want to cut.../I want about an inch off...

    My dear teachers,

    Which one is correct?

    1. I want to cut my back hair about an inch. (This sounds good to me.)

    2. I want about an inch off the back of my hair.

    3. I want about an inch off: the back of my hair.

    Thanks in advance...

"Back hair" is hair that grows on your back, not on your head. I should know, because my sister always wants to shave my back hair. But even mine isn't longer than an inch! I suppose this is a rare phenomenon in The Philippines. I know what you are trying to say though.
    I would say:

"I want to cut about an inch off my hair in the back."

"I want to cut about an inch off my hair in the back."
Or in BE, '. . .at the back.'

In AmE, "...about an inch off the back" should be sufficient. As you're probably saying this to a barber, he should know what hair you're talking about.

Maybe, but young people these days want some pretty strange things.
