Helpless babies cry to.....................their parents that they are ill, hungry, uncomfortable.
1 A communicate B persuade C inform D demonstrate
The idea that having a good cry can do you...............is a very old one.
2 A better B fine C good D well
I think the correct answer are 1 C and 2 B. What do you think about it?
I chose "inform" because this was the least specific word, and I wanted to attribute the least cognitive function to the baby as I could.
To say that a baby can't "inform" his parents, but that he can "persuade" his parents is a bit of a stretch.

I would agree that "inform" is the only logical answer (although I also agree that there is no actual intent on the part of the baby).
Persuasion requires (normally) the use of reasoned argument in order to convince another person of your point of view or to do what you want, especially when that person originally wanted to do nothing at all or to do something different. I don't think we can say that a baby is capable of reasoned argument - it has neither the language skills nor the cognitive ability to do that.
