    be bound to miss the point

    Dear teachers,

    Would you be kind enough to give me your considered opinion concerning my interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentence?

    Myra watched us both tensely, but I knew that however hard she listened, she was bound to miss the point.

    be bound to miss the point = be doomed to fail to understand the important part of something

    Yes - that's fine. Or 'She was certain/sure. . .' rather than doomed.
