    a long way to go

    Dear all,

What is the meaning of "a long way to go" in:

A (male Dr.): Depending on DNA results, you getting on a plane is like, uh, playing Russian roulette.
B (female): What are you talking about? I've been flying my whole life.
A: Are you really gonna argue with me about this?
B: Well, this is a long way to go to keep me around.
    A: I'll settle for keeping you alive. <chuckling exhale>

    Thanks a lot.

    Not a teacher

In the context I would interpret it as:

"Well, this is going too far just to keep me around."

And what does that mean? Your explanation needs an explanation!

    Thanks.

You asked for the meaning of what you typed in blue and I gave you one. But, fine, maybe the following will help:

B: Well, you are going to extremes just to keep me here.

    My opinion.

    JUST A LITTLE STUDENT
Do we have a structure like "to be going to + adj/adv"? (as in your sentence, I want to consider the "far"). I don't think it exists, so the sentence should be "to be going to be far..." or "to be going far..."?
I am looking forward to your comment and the teachers' comments too!
    Thank you!

Re: a long way to go

Thanks. You made me aware of a typing mistake. I have already edited my post to correct it. Now it says:

    "You are going too far".
