Hi

One woman decided to inform another woman about something. She says:

I don't know whether it’ll help to settle you or not, but you might as well know.

Does "settle" mean "calm you down"?

What is the meaning of "you might as well know" here?

1 Without more context, I would assume so
2 = There's no point in you not knowing this It's a way of introducing some information that might have been secret, withheld, etc
