    Re: True or False

Is the following sentence is an example of proper comma usage?

Many students anticipate spring break but, Luis looks forward to winter vacation more.

    No.

Many students anticipate spring break, but Luis looks forward to winter vacation more.

In many parts of the world, the comma is optional.

Training for the upcoming ten-mile marathon, Lizette includes more protein and complex carbohydrates in her diet.

The comma is correctly placed, but the sentence is a little awkward.

While training for the upcoming ten-mile marathon, Lizette includes more protein and complex carbohydrates in her diet.

    would be better.

    Re: True or False

In many parts of the world, the comma is optional.
Some writers will leave out the comma in a sentence with short, balanced independent clauses.

I'd suggest keeping the comma here:

Many students anticipate spring break, but Luis looks forward to winter vacation more.
