firefly and the Fourth of July?

I read some phrase about firefly and the Fourth of July.
Do they have any relationship in the states? What kind of firefly-related event is held on the day?

    Fireworks or fireflies??
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

There is no connection between fireflies and the Fourth of July.

Re: firefly and the Fourth of July?

Well, yes there can be. Fireflies, or as they are known here "lightning bugs," generally first appear each year during the latter part of June. Lightning bugs are very easy to catch and cause no damage. So it is a fun pastime for small children to catch these bugs and collect them in a glass jar, where they can blink their lights.

So there is some association with children catching fireflies on the 4th of July, as the day winds down and people wait for the fireworks displays.
