    front lines

    Dear all,

What is the meaning of "the front lines" in:

"Today Chen is the president of the CTA, but back in '83 he was on the
    front lines"

***CTA is just a Chinese fictional organization.

    Thanks a lot.

    Re: front lines

    My guess:
He was at the lowest level of employment. On the factory floor, or on the sales floor, or on the phone with customers at the call center -- whatever it is that the people who do the actual work of the organization do.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

    Re: front lines

I'd guess the same. The front line is where the soldiers do the fighting in a war, so I'd go for doing the 'actual work' like Barb_D.
