    in the ground

    Dear all,

What is the meaning of "in the ground" in:

[I beat my head against the wall on this case. It was cold before the kid was in the ground]

That was said by a detective to a narcotic cop who hid info from him long time ago about a case that he reopened it again now. "the kid" is the victim.

what does he mean by "it was cold before the kid was in the ground". I assume that "cold" here refers to the case... but I ca't guess the meaning.

Kindly ask me about more context if you need.

    Thanks a lot.

    Re: in the ground

They had run out of leads to follow even before the victim was buried.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

Yes! I thought of "before he is dead" but then before his death there is no case! "Before he's buried" as you have kindly posted really makes a sense.

    Thanks a lot.
