Which sentence is grammatically correct?

Hello,

could you please tell me which sentence IS grammatically correct?
a) Bob will be operated on soon.
b) You must go to the doctor to get a prescription.
c) The number of HIV-infected patients is still raising, although not as fast as before.
d) Mary has just been told that she is no longer eligible to state help.

I answered C, am I right or no?

My second question is which sentence IS logical?
a) The couple won't be able to afford holidays as they and their children live on one-parent benefit.
b) Some firms make excessive use of trainees and temps who are paid lower wages and more or less treated like casual labour.
c) I feel like I am living just on the breadline, I can hardly make ends meet and my income has now reached the upper limit.
d) All of the above

C is not correct in your first question. Have a look at the verb in that sentence and see if you can work out why the sentence is wrong.

A is not correct in the second question. Try again and see if you can work out why A is illogical.

Hello,

Thanks for your answer. I really don't see what's wrong with "is still raising"? Could you explain me please?
Same thing for the second one - why the A its not logical? The family live on one-parent benefit and they cannot afford holidays.

Oh and just in case - it's not my homework, it was part of my exam which I did 3 days ago. I have doubts with these two questions and I would like to calculate my note because I don't have the patience to wait 2 more weeks to have it.

OK, I'll put you out of your misery. "One-parent benefit" or "single-parent benefit" as it's more commonly known is only available to households where there is only one parent living with the child/children.

The statement clearly says the "couple and their children..." so it is clearly not a one-parent family, hence they would not receive that benefit.
