    I think it could benefit from some commas. At least around "thank God."

    and diety deity gave me a hard time understanding this thread :)
    I even looked up these words to extend my thesaurus.

    Deity is a good word to add to your vocabulary!

    Correctined most certainly is not and should be forgotten immediately!

    However, I can't think of any other use of the word "God" than to refer to a certain deity (of course there are plenty in some religions) - as Gil said.

    On Facebook someone once asked: "Do all people who post 'thank God it's friday' really believe in God?".

    P.S.: So, could we say "the Hindi have many gods"?

    That's a fine question to which, I'm sure, the answer is an unequivocal "No"!

    I'm an atheist but am often heard to exclaim "Oh for God's sake", "Oh God", "Thank God for that" etc. They're just common accepted terms now in English and have nothing to do with religion (to most people!)
