Question The meaning of 'intake', in this sentence...

    Hi all,
Would anyone please help me get what the following underlined section means?

Karen, [...], is desperately seeking a speedy transition from the campus uniform of jeans, trainers and sweatshirts to smart suits and shoes, without resorting to the pastel, power outfits favoured by New Labour's fresh female intake.

    Thanks a lot!

Without any more context, I can only say that "intake" refers to people or a person who was just brought into the party.
