Which one is correct?

1) The weather in California is similar to Tehran.

2) The weather in California is similar to the weather in Tehran.

3) The weather in California is similar to it in Tehran.

He states that some equipment in a lab should be replaced because they are/ it is getting older. I know ''equipment'' is singular, but can I still say they are getting older?

I would appreciate your response.

Which one is correct?

1) The weather in California is similar to Tehran. Some people would say this. I wouldn't.

2) The weather in California is similar to the weather in Tehran. That's OK

3) The weather in California is similar to [STRIKE]it[/STRIKE] that in Tehran. It's right with 'that'.
Or "California's weather is similar to that of Tehran."

No you can't. The equipment is getting older.

Some pieces of equipment should be replaced because they are getting old.
(Note: everything in the world is getting older, all the time.)

Not true. Some die rather than grow old. ;-)
